Comprehensive Exams

The first step towards maintaining excellent oral health is a comprehensive dental exam. This is a more thorough examination than a routine dental checkup, and is designed to help your dentist understand your oral health care needs.

This exam is a vital element in preventing oral disease and keeping your mouth healthy. Usually, it is conducted during the initial visit and will serve as a baseline for any future treatment plans.

Comprehensive exams include the following:

X-Rays

A full set of x-rays will be needed to help us identify any areas of concern that may not be visible to the naked eye including tooth decay, cysts, bone loss or any other abnormalities.

Periodontal Exam

The condition of your gum will be assessed thoroughly. If left untreated, gum disease could lead to tooth loss, and a host of other health conditions. Gum disease can be reversed if found and treated early, so identifying any problems will help maintain and protect your gum health.

Tooth By Tooth Exam

Every single one of your teeth will be checked for chips or cracks. We will assess the condition of your tooth enamel, determine your risk of developing cavities, and also check existing fillings or restorations.

Aesthetic Evaluation

Your smile will be evaluated and we will consider any cosmetic dentistry procedures you may need such as teeth whitening, tooth replacement, correcting misaligned teeth, and others.

Bite Analysis

A bite analysis will be performed to determine the health of your bite. Bad bite may lead to TMJ, excessive tooth wear and tooth loss. Correcting any occlusion can lower your risk of developing potential problems.

Oral Cancer Screening

This is a quick and painless exam to determine any possible signs of oral cancer. When treated in the early stages, there is a significantly higher chance (90%) of cure.

Comprehensive Treatment Plan

After your comprehensive dental examination, we will create an individualized treatment plan for you. This will comprise a list of treatments for immediate needs, preventive measures, and any recommendations for cosmetic procedures to improve your smile.

Caring for your teeth should not stop at the dental office. At home oral care involves brushing and flossing daily, and rinsing using a dentist-recommended mouthwash. We also encourage all our patients to keep a healthy and balanced diet; avoid sugary foods and drinks, as well as tobacco products to lower your risk of gum disease and cavities.

Your routine checkups and dental cleanings are also just as important. We will work with you to ensure you have optimal oral health for a lifetime.
