Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas or happy gas, is designed to help reduce pain and anxiety during treatment. It is administered through a tiny nosepiece; and the patient remains awake and aware of everything that happens around him or her.

After the procedure, the patient will receive oxygen for 5 minutes to avoid getting a headache. The oxygen will eliminate any remaining gas from the lungs.

It’s recommended that you eat a light meal before the procedure and avoid a big meal within 3 hours after. Nitrous oxide is safe and is in fact the preferred method of sedation for kids; however, it is contraindicated for patients who are pregnant, have been diagnosed with COPD, or have a history of drug addiction.
